Closing the bones · Mexican midwifery tradition

Rebozo

Work with the rebozo, the shawl of the Mexican midwifery tradition: wrapping, rocking and holding, through to closing the bones after birth.

Valentina cradling someone's head with the rebozo

The rebozo cradles and holds: it helps release tension, let go, and feel supported. It is precious in passages, from postpartum to moments of deep tiredness.

Closing the bones (la cerrada) symbolically accompanies the body after birth: work that speaks to the nervous system through movement and containment.
